Purpose

Create a simple framework to train the project management team on how to build trust with stakeholders and drive results in the absence of the project manager.

Process

When the project manager was out of the office, I was assigned to act as the project lead to ensure projects continued to move forward by managing and resolving risks. The communications project management team consisted mainly of student employees with entry-level experience in project management. I developed a simple, easy-to-understand project management framework designed to meet student employees where they are with their project management experience. The process involved creating the C.A.R.E. framework, preparing and executing a training session with real-life project examples, and continuing to use the C.A.R.E. framework as an on-going reference for current and future student employees.

Perspective

The goal was to remove unnecessary complexity, build confidence, and give students a clear path to contribute meaningfully to real-world projects. It's been incredibly rewarding to see how this approach has helped them feel more capable, organized, and engaged in the daily tasks and especially the combined unity and effectiveness of the team while the project manager is out of the office.
